A security system that was good when it was installed can quietly fall behind. These are the signs we see most often.
1. You cannot make out a face at night
If your night footage is a grey blur, it will not help you or the police identify anyone. Current cameras record clear, often full-colour, images in very low light.
2. You only find out afterwards
A system that records but does not alert you is a history book. Modern systems send a notification to your phone the moment a person enters an area they should not be in.
3. The alarm cries wolf
Frequent false alarms teach everyone to ignore the siren. Newer sensors and smart cameras can tell the difference between a person, a pet and a tree moving in the wind.
4. Everything stops when the power goes
Power cuts are exactly when you are most exposed. Battery backup or solar keeps cameras, alarms, fences and gate motors running.
5. Nothing talks to anything else
A separate app for the gate, another for the cameras and a remote for the alarm is frustrating to live with. An integrated system lets one event trigger the rest: the fence alarm turns on the lights, starts recording and alerts your phone.
You do not always need to start again. Many upgrades reuse existing cabling and equipment, so ask for an assessment before you assume the worst.
